Shelbyville Fire & Rescue provides a full range of emergency response, rescue, and prevention services to protect life and property throughout the community.
Our personnel are trained to respond quickly, operate effectively in high-risk situations, and support the community through both emergency response and proactive safety efforts.

Fire Suppression
We respond to and extinguish residential, commercial, industrial, and wildland fires. Our personnel are trained to assess fire conditions, control hazards, and protect surrounding structures while working to bring incidents under control as efficiently as possible.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (EMS) (NON-TRANSPORT)
Shelbyville Fire & Rescue provides on-scene emergency medical care, including first aid and basic life support. Our personnel respond to medical incidents to assess and stabilize patients until additional medical transport or advanced care arrives.

Search and Rescue (SAR) & Specialized Rescue
We conduct search and rescue operations during emergencies such as natural disasters, structural collapses, and vehicle accidents. Our team is also trained in specialized rescue techniques, including confined space entry, water rescue, trench rescue, rope rescue (high and low angle), structural collapse response, and vehicle extrication.

Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Response
Our department responds to incidents involving hazardous chemicals, fuels, and other dangerous substances. We work to contain spills, mitigate risks, and manage affected areas to protect both the public and the environment.

Fire Prevention & Inspections
We conduct inspections of buildings and facilities to help ensure compliance with fire codes and safety standards. In addition to inspections, we work with property owners and occupants to identify potential hazards and promote effective fire prevention.

Public Education & Community Outreach
We are committed to educating the community on fire safety, emergency preparedness, and the proper use of fire safety equipment. We offer programs, workshops, school visits, and public demonstrations to help residents and the community stay informed and prepared.

Disaster Response
Our personnel assist in large-scale emergencies, including floods, tornadoes, and other natural disasters. We support evacuation efforts, coordinate with partner agencies, and help manage response operations during critical incidents.

Incident Command & Coordination
During emergency responses, we operate within an established incident command structure to ensure clear communication, effective resource management, and coordinated operations. This approach allows multiple agencies and personnel to work together efficiently in complex situations.

Training & Preparedness
Ongoing training is essential to maintaining readiness. Our personnel participate in regular drills and simulations and receive continued training in firefighting, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and hazardous materials handling.
